Indian Classical Dance · Since 2018
Fast pirouettes, intricate footwork, and graceful storytelling — learn Kathak in Burnaby & North Delta with gold-medallist teacher Sonal Munshi. Classes for ladies and kids, all levels welcome.
Margi Dance Academy teaches Kathak, one of the eight classical dance forms of India, in the Vancouver area. We offer group, semi-private and private classes — the same extensive training you would find in India — for ladies and for children aged six and up.
Class sizes are kept small (around 6–10 students) so every dancer gets real attention and feedback. It is dancing that builds stamina, posture and grace in the body; discipline, concentration and coordination in the mind; and something uplifting for the spirit.

Founder & Instructor · Gold Medallist
Sonal is a gold-medallist Kathak instructor who trained in India and has been teaching in the Vancouver area for years. Students describe her as a patient, inspiring role model with real attention to detail and technique.
Her classes go beyond steps — helping students build strength and stamina, and connect with Indian culture, music and their traditional roots. Every dancer, from first-timers to stage performers, is met where they are.
My daughter has been learning Kathak with Sonal Munshi for 5 years. She is a good teacher and an inspiring role model to her students. I appreciate her attention to detail and technique — the classes have also helped in understanding and maintaining Indian culture and rich history.
My daughter Kashi has been learning Kathak for over 5 years now. It has improved her strength & stamina, and she has learned about yog, music, and to appreciate her traditional roots.
All thanks to our guruji, we got an opportunity to perform on stage in front of Lord Krishna.
I am so blessed to have an amazing teacher, and thankful for her patience towards us.
I thoroughly enjoy my Kathak class. I feel refreshed after an hour of dancing.
Sonal ji, you made dancing effortless for a first-timer. I look forward to my class as it re-energises me. Many thanks!
